Spring Favourites

These are a few of my favourite things in spring. I’m not Christian but I like Easter. It’s a marker of spring and it symbolises – new life and new start. And It brings lovely stuff with it – fluffy chicks, naughty bunnies who like to hide coloured eggs, chocolate egg filled with more chocolate and sweet sticky hot cross buns.

OK, I admit this Easter was horrible; wet, windy and cold. (we had storm and sleet in London!) Yet, I still have faith in spring. I know, I just know, it will come like always it did, and bring back the burst of colours – emerald of new foliage, golden yellow of daffodils and violet of bluebells to name a few – to the naked winter fields and trees. No wonder the season has been inspiring so many artists, writers and poets like Wordsworth for centuries:

I wandered lonely as a Cloud
That floats on high o’er Vales and Hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd
A host of dancing Daffodils;
Along the Lake, beneath the trees,
Ten thousand dancing in the breeze.

(Daffodils by William Wordsworth)

Easter is also the beginning of Summer Time. The day gets brighter and longer. During winter time, my thick heavy winter coats and leather boots weigh me down like an iron armer, but the spring sun slowly melts them away. On the arrival of spring my heart skips for the spring coats and flat shoes that are so light as feather that I can skip in them.
